Verses Refuting Once Saved Always Saved

Scripture plainly teaches that adulterers, liars, etc. (Rev 21:8) go to the lake of fire and we can lose our salvation if we fall into willful sin (Heb 10:26-30). We can't follow Jesus only temporarily.

Verses

2 Peter 2:20-22 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than at the beginning. For it would it have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. It has happened to them according to the true proverb: A dog returns to his own vomit, and a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.

Romans 11:20-22 Well said, they fell because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. Consider the goodness and severity of God. On those who fell severity, but toward you goodness, if you continue in His goodness, otherwise you also will be cut off.

Matt 5:13 You [disciples] are the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

Luke 8:13 But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.

1 Cor 3: 16-17 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. [Others can kill my body, but only I can defile my temple. How can I defile it?] 1 Cor 6:18-20 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

1 Cor 15:1-2 I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you.

Hebrews 2:1-3 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, 3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation ?

Hebrews 3:12-14 Beware, brethren [believers], lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today", lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end. [Do you see the condition? "If we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end."]

Hebrews 4:11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

Hebrews 6:4-7 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have been partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God and put Him to an open shame. For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God; but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.

Hebrews 10:26-27 For if WE [believers] sin willfully after WE [believers] have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.

Hebrews 10:29-31 Of how much worse punishment [than the preceding death penalty in Moses' Law] will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the [Jesus'] blood of the [New] covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. And again, "The Lord will judge His people." It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Hebrews 10:35-36 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise . 38 Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.

Hebrews 13:25 See that you do not refuse Him Who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we [believers] turn away from Him Who speaks from heaven.

Galatians (read these verses together: 3:26-27, 4:9-11, 20) 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ. 27 For as many of you [only the baptized] as were baptized into Christ, have put on Christ. ... 4:9 But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggardly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage? ... I am afraid for you, lest I have labored in vain. ... 4:20 ... for I have my doubts about you.

Col 1:21-23 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight - 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

2 Peter 3:16-17 ... unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;

Rev 2:5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place - unless you repent.

Election and Salvation
The foremost test of salvation (2 Cor 13:5) is our love for God and others (Luke 10:25-37), as expressed by obedience (1 John 2:3-4, 5:3-4). If we are characterized by willful disobedience (Heb 10:26), such as unrepentant lying, adultery, lukewarm works (Rev 3:15-16), etc., we are NOT elect (2 Peter 1:5-10), not saved.

2 Peter 1:9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and ELECTION sure, for IF you do these things you will never stumble.

Salvation is Conditional
Jesus makes it very clear in John 15:1-6: IF you abide in him you are saved. IF you do not abide in (i.e. continue to follow, obey) Him you are lost. Our salvation is conditional not unconditional. Consider just some of the conditional statements of scripture: Matt 7:21; Luke 13:1-5; John 6:51; 7:17, 8:31,39,51-52; 10:9; 11:39-41; 12:6; 13:17, 35; 14:15,23; 15:6,7,10,14; I John 1:6-10; 2:3-4,15,19,24,29;3:3, 10, 24; 4:20, 5:2; Revelation 2:5,10,16; 3:3,5, 15-16; 21:7-8; etc.
